Onalfo Out, Schmid In For Galaxy

Galaxy

After just 20 games under Manager Curt Onalfo, Los Angeles Galaxy have decided it’s time for a change. Onalfo was relieved of his duties effective immediately Thursday morning according to Kevin Baxter of the LA Times.

Los Angeles, currently on a five game losing streak in MLS play didn’t take long to name former Galaxy and Seattle Sounder coach Sigi Schmid as the replacement to Onalfo.

Schmid coached Los Angeles from 1999-2004 and is widely regarded as one of the best coaches in American soccer. Previously Schmid coached for Seattle from 2009-2016 and was let go midway through the year last season due to the team’s struggles.

Rumors of Schmid taking over the Los Angeles job have been rampant all season long whenever the club hit a period of struggle. The 64 year-old had been living in Los Angeles since his dismissal from Seattle and had been working as an analyst for Major League Soccer.

In a twist of fate, Schmid was fired last year after losing a match to the Galaxy and will have a quick chance at revenge towards his old employer. His first game as Galaxy manager will be this Saturday, against the Seattle Sounders.
