New York Rangers Hold On Beat Kings 4-3

The Los Angeles Kings hosted the New York Rangers in a Stanley Cup rematch and fell 4-3. The Kings were coming off an overtime loss to the Nashville Predators last week and wanted to get back in the win column tonight.
Tonight the Kings looked like the team that been resting for almost a week. Tanner Pearson scored a wrist shot goal that was assisted by Jeff Carter and Tyler Toffoli. Less than two minutes later Justin Williams scored a slap shot goal that was assisted by Dustin Brown and Alec Martinez and the Kings were ahead 2-0 early.
The Rangers scored a goal in the first period to get on the board. Dan Boyle scored a slap shot goal that was assisted by Rick Nash and Derick Brassard. The Kings would end the first period with a 2-1 lead as they outshot their opponent 12-8.
The second period was all Rangers. Kevin Klein scored a wrist shot goal that was assisted by Kevin Hayes and John Moore that tied the score 2-2. 21 seconds later the Rangers struck again as Lee Stempniak scored a wrist shot goal of his own that was assisted by J.T. Miller and Dan Girardi. The Rangers scored once more in the period when Martin St. Louis scored a wrist shot goal that was assisted by Boyle and Brassard.
Heading into the third period the Kings trailed 4-2 and looked to make a comeback. With four minutes left in the game Justin Williams scored his second goal of the game that was assisted by Brown and Anze Kopitar.
With 35 seconds left in the game the Kings had a golden opportunity to tie the game as they had a six to four man advantage to end the game. The Kings were unable to capitalize on the opportunity and fell to the Rangers 4-3.
Up next for the Kings they will host the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday night at the Staples Center.
