Galaxy Beat Impact 2-0 In Convincing Win

Galaxy

The LA Galaxy is back with a win.

The Galaxy beat the Montreal Impact 2-0 at StubHub Center on Friday night in convincing fashion thanks to goals from Romain Alessandrini and Jermaine Jones, his first of his Galaxy career.

The Galaxy struck first through Romain Alessandrini after an Emmanuel Boateng run on the left led to a square pass along the top of the box to an open Alessandrini who guided home a left-footed strike to the bottom left corner.

LA had the better chances overall in the first half, which is a bit of a change from the way things have gone so far this season.

Toward halftime, Montreal’s Marco Donadel was sent off for an in-air collision with Jermaine Jones. There was not much contact from Donadel’s arm to Jones’ head but the U.S. international went down and the referee felt it warranted a red card.

The second half looked more open as the Impact played with 10-men. Gyasi Zardes was finding space well and looked back in his good form that he had prior to his injury.

The Galaxy doubled its lead after a through ball to Zardes was taken over the halfway line. Zardes then pushed it through once more to an onrushing Jones who put it passed Evan Bush to make it 2-0 to the hosts.

It was Jones’ first goal for the Galaxy since signing in the offseason from the Colorado Rapids after the Galaxy acquired his rights.

Giovani Dos Santos looked lively in his outing, and though he did not score the Mexican was a key figure in the win.

Ashley Cole looked decent defensively, as did the entirety of the backline, including Clement Diop, who made several good saves to keep it scoreless for the 90 minutes.

Zardes was subbed for Jack McBean in the 81st minute and Bradford Jamieson IV in for Boateng in the 88th.

Los Angeles now goes 2-3 on the season as it climbs up from the bottom of the Western Conference.
