Dodgers Start Season With 14-3 Win Over Padres

The Los Angeles Dodgers (1-0) scored 14 runs on Opening Day to beat the San Diego Padres (0-1) by a score of 14-3. There was a flurry of longballs for the Dodgers in this one.
For Los Angeles Clayton Kershaw got the start. He was dominate pitching 7 innings allowing 2 runs, 1 earned, and 2 hits to go along with 8 strikeouts.
On the other side Jhoulys Chacin struggled. He pitched 3.1 innings allowing 8 hits, and 9 runs while striking out 2. He also allowed 2 homeruns.
The offense started early for the Padres. Yangervis Solarte hit a RBI single to center that brought in Wil Myers. This gave the Padres a 1-0 lead.
In the second inning Joc Pederson got the Dodgers on the board with a sacrifice fly that brought in Adrian Gonzalez and tied the game at 1-1.
Pederson added his first homerun of the year with a grand-slam in the third. His homer brought in Justin Turner, Gonzalez, and Logan Forsythe. Yasmani Grandal followed Pederson up with a solo shot of his own that pushed the lead to 6-1 after three.
Turner added to the Dodger lead with a RBI double that brought in Kershaw. Andrew Toles and Turner scored later in the inning due to wild pitches.
In the fifth inning Corey Seager joined the homerun party. He hit a three run shot that brought in Yasiel Puig and Kershaw.
Ryan Schimpf hit a homerun in the 7th inning to cut into the lead 12-2. Manuel Margot hit a RBI double that brought in Travis Jankowski in the 8th inning. Grandal hit his second homer of the game in the 8th inning and the Dodgers went on to win 14-3.
Los Angeles will continue their series with the Padres tonight at Dodger stadium at 7:10 p.m. PST. Clayton Richard and Kenta Maeda are the projected starters.
