Clippers Edge Out Hornets In OT 124-121

Clippers

Coming off two straight losses the Los Angeles Clippers would try to get back in the winning column against a young Charlotte Hornets team.

In Chris Paul’s second game back from injury there was absolutely no rust. Through just the first half he was dishing the ball out to his teammates as well as ever with 12 assists. He ended his night with a tremendous 17 assists to go with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Just as impressive was what Paul didn’t do, turn the ball over. With all those assists Paul had a miraculous 0 turnovers. Let that sink in.

Paul’s teammates certainly felt the effects of his fantastic vision. JJ Redick was 3-7 from beyond the arc finishing with 22 points.

Blake Griffin meanwhile was having himself a career night. Dropping a massive 43 points to go with 5 assists and 10 rebounds. Also must say not many can tally up a rebound and two points quite as flashy as Griffin can.

While the Clippers starting unit was putting up gaudy stat lines the bench was less than stellar. On multiple occasions the bench unit came on and blew double-digit leads the starters had gathered. The leading scorer on the bench was a tie between Mo Speights and Austin Rivers, each had just 5 points. While a staggered lineup including a starter or two in with some bench players may have eased the pain of the benches struggles, Doc Rivers wouldn’t make such an adjustment.

The stagnant Clippers bench gave the Hornets some opportunities to close the gap in this game and Kemba Walker and Nicolas Batum took advantage. Walker and Batum were both lighting it up from long range knocking down 14 three pointers between them. Walker finished his night with 34 points while Batum had 31.

This game was the definition of back and forth all night long. And by the time the final buzzer sounded at the end of the fourth quarter, the two teams needed more time to decide the winner.

The overtime period was a nail-biter within itself but it would be the Clippers that come out on top with a 124-121 victory.

A great win for Los Angeles that needed to find some momentum coming off two tough losses.

Thanks for reading along Clipper Nation. Here’s to carrying this momentum on to the team’s next matchup versus the Houston Rockets March 1st.
