What Can We Expect Out Of The Lakers?

Lakers

As the All-Star break approaches the Los Angeles Lakers are currently near the bottom of the Western Conference standings with a record of 17-36. With the playoff race most likely out of the question what can we look forward to this last third of the season or so?

Brandon Ingram

For people who don’t watch too many games and look purely at statistics one would say that Ingram has been a disappointment for the Lakers. The number two overall pick in averaging eight point per game to go along with four rebounds and two assists. Not the most impressive numbers but if you actually watch the tape Ingram is playing various positions including the point guard at times. Ingram is also coming off the bench starting in just 14 games this season. As a starter his number bump up to 10 points per game and let’s be honest he’ll be the Lakers starting forward for years to come. Luke Walton has been quoted saying that Ingram can’t miss in practice and is just struggling to make the same impact when the lights come on. To me that’s okay for a couple reasons but the most importantly because he’s only nineteen years old. The NBA is well known for being called the “No Boys Allowed” league and Ingram is still learning the ropes. He’ll be fine, watch his growth and development over the next few weeks especially if Los Angeles to go full youth movement and start the rookie.

Ivica Zubac

Zubac has had Lakers fans excited on what the future can hold for the bigman. The Croatian is from the same country as Philadelphia 76ers forward Dario Saric and Orlando Magic guard Mario Henjoza. When given his chance he has put together some strong performances including double-doubles against the Denver Nuggets, Portland Trial Blazers, and Utah Jazz. Zubac was able to put together a career high 17 points against the Nuggets in last week’s 120-116 victory. Zubac has the offensive game that frankly Timofey Mozgov hasn’t showed since joining the Lakers. As Zubac continues to get reps in the NBA Development League as well as the NBA he will grow into a solid player.

Trade Deadline

With the Lakers most likely not going to the playoffs is it time to make couple deadline deals to collect draft picks? NBA basketball betting page at William Hill  doesn’t believe the Lakers will make the playoffs so maybe they look to move Nick Young or Lou Williams to a contending team.

Young is having a comeback year after struggling under Byron Scott. Williams has been the most consistent Lakers leading the NBA in bench scoring and if they club was better would have a real chance at winning the NBA 6th man of the Year award again. Maybe the Washington Wizards or Utah Jazz would be interested in another scoring option off the bench as they’ll have to play high powered offenses like James Harden and Houston Rockets or LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavilers should they advance.
