The Chargers Are Moving To Los Angeles
- Updated: January 12, 2017
After speculation and rumors of the team leaving, the San Diego Chargers made the announcement of the team relocating to Los Angeles.
The team had until Tuesday to inform the league of the team’s future and to make a firm decision of leaving the city which they called home for the past 56-years. Chargers owner Dean Spanos earlier this morning informed the team’s staff about the move.
The Chargers started out as the Los Angeles Chargers and after all this time, they will return to their original home. In November the San Diego voters rejected two ballot measures to for a new downtown stadium. Spanos and other city officials which included San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer failed to agree on a plan to keep the team in San Diego. Last month the team agreed to lease a portion of an Orange County office facility in
Costa Mesa California, some 45 miles north of their potential new home in Inglewood California, where they would share a home with the Los Angeles Rams.
In the announcement, Spanos expressed his gratitude when he thanked the city and the fans of San Diego for their support and dedication to the team over the years.
