Lakers Lose In Cleveland and It’s Time To Panic

Lakers

Despite a valiant effort and huge evenings from Nick Young and Jordan Clarkson, the Lakers fell in Cleveland last night.

At no point did it feel like either squad was in complete control. Young dropped 32 to lead all scorers. Cleveland used balanced attacks from Kevin Love (27 pts) and LeBron James (26 pts) to put this game away late in the final frame. 17 of LeBron’s 26 points came in the fourth quarter. Kyrie Irving quietly dropped 21 in the shadows of Love and LeBron.

Nick Young had a career night. His 32 points came on 12-19 shooting including 8-14 from three-point land. Clarkson’s twenty bench-points kept Los Angeles in it for the vast majority of the evening.

119-108 was the final in favor of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

To say the least, it’s been an ugly stretch for the Lakers, who have now lost nine of their last ten games. Just weeks ago it appeared this team had turned a corner from the 2015-2016 season, but at 11-19, it appears that we could be headed for another season in the trenches.

An early look at the Western Conference standings show the Lakers 2.5 games out of a playoff spot, with three teams to jump in Sacramento, Denver and Portland. Stranger things have happened and the season is certainly young, but these kids are going to have to turn a corner if they want to see any dramatic changes over the course of the next few months.

The Lakers are in Charlotte Tuesday night for a 4:00 (PST) tip.
