Grizzlies Snap Clipper Win Streak 111-107

Grizzlies

The rival Memphis Grizzlies (5-5) came to Los Angeles Wednesday night to take on your Clippers (10-1). Always one of the most physical rivalries in the league, this one did not disappoint.

Blake Griffin got off to a hot start getting 15 points in just the first quarter. The stingy first ranked Clipper defense looked a little worn early on though as Los Angeles would not be able to capitalize, leading by just two after one-quarter of play.

Mike Conley would own the second quarter and so would his Grizzlies. Conley would end the first half with 18 points. Shooting a perfect 6 for 6 from the field, 4 of which were three pointers. Everything was falling for Memphis and the Clipper bench faltered with Jamal Crawford having 0 points at the half.

This would put the Clippers down 15 with two quarters to go.

Los Angeles would need a spark to turn this game around. Chris Paul delivered.

Paul was blocked on the play by a trailing Andrew Harrison but used his trademark attributes of hustle and intelligence to snatch the ball away from Conley and get to the line. That hustle would go a long way in jump starting the stagnant Clippers.

J.J. Redick would get himself going in the third with that clutch three ball knocking in 13 points for the quarter. That momentum stayed in his favor for the rest of the contest as Los Angeles cut the lead to just 7 with 1 quarter remaining.

Redick’s perimeter shooting along with Crawford shaking off that rough start helped the Clippers close the gap. The rivalry between the squads became as evident as ever with the physicality level reaching a high late in this contest as the teams swapped leads back and forth. Marc Gasol though would drain his fourth three-pointer of the night to give his Grizzlies a 2 point lead with just 15 seconds to go. The Clippers wouldn’t respond.

Memphis wins this one in Staples Center handing the Clippers just their second loss of the season 111-107.

Conley ended the night with a stellar 30 points and 8 assists. Gasol helped out as well with the aforementioned 4 three balls and 26 points.

Griffin and Redick stole the show for Los Angeles with 54 of the teams points between them. Redick with 29 and Griffin with 25 was a great showing for the pair. But the absence of Paul and other key Clippers may have cost the squad late. A strong comeback effort showed the fight in this team, but tonight was just not their night.

Falling to 10-2 the Clippers will head to Sacramento for a matchup against the Kings Friday. Once again this game will be televised on ESPN at 7:30 PM PST.

With a winning streak snapped Wednesday night, here’s to starting a new one in Sacramento Friday. Thanks for reading along Clipper Nation.
