Galaxy Draw And Set Playoff Date

Galaxy

The Galaxy came to StubHub Center Sunday afternoon with nothing to lose in the last MLS regular season game of the year. Sadly they didn’t have anything to gain either as they were already locked into the third position moving into the playoffs so as you can imagine this wasn’t exactly the most exciting game the team has played.

However their opponent FC Dallas had everything to gain. With a win or draw the club could clinch their first Supporters Shield, given to the MLS team that finishes the regular season with the most points. With a loss and a Colorado Rapids win though, the Shield would head to Colorado. Dallas too appeared not to be playing inspired soccer despite their opportunity as both clubs looked very lethargic and tepid.

Possibly the many changes to the Galaxy lineup that left out stars like Robbie Keane and Giovani Dos Santos led to the clubs lackluster performance but Galaxy fans were certainly hoping they would try to seize some ever important momentum with the playoffs looming. They would fail to do so.

Dallas would get what they needed out of this one as the contest would end in a ho-hum 0-0 draw and they clinched the Supporters Shield.

With few scoring chances coming from either side, there were still some positives for Los Angeles coming out of this game.

Landon Donovan played the full 90 minutes for the first time since his return to the Galaxy and even though it clearly wasn’t an exhausting 90 minutes thanks to both teams effort, it is a positive looking at his fitness heading into the MLS Cup race.

Young players like Raul Mendiola and Ariel Lassiter played very well in one of their few starting opportunities they have had this season. Lassiter in particular made only his second MLS start ever and he showed good signs of his strong attacking play moving forward.

Speaking of moving forward the Galaxy now have an opponent for their knockout game set for Wednesday as they will be taking on Real Salt Lake. RSL lost in today’s action to Seattle and will be looking to turn things around against a Galaxy team that was hoping for a little more momentum going into the knockout round as well.

Thanks for following along for the Galaxy’s MLS Regular season and of course we will keep you updated as the team works through the playoffs and its #RaceToSeis.
