Gyasi Zardes reportedly out for rest of 2016 with broken foot
- Updated: August 29, 2016
It has been a rough Monday for the Galaxy. From the reported news of Nigel de Jong’s departure in the morning to now the apparent broken foot injury to star forward Gyasi Zardes.
According to reports, Zardes will miss the remainder of the 2016 year with both the LA Galaxy and the U.S. men’s national team. The injury occurred on Saturday when Zardes was involved in a heavy sliding challenge from Vancouver Whitecaps defender Kendall Watson in the second half. Watson was not issued a card and the play was not called a foul.
The Galaxy have been on the other side of these challenges through De Jong, who is constantly criticized for making strong challenges. Zardes’ injury will have a massive effect for both club and country as the forward plays vital roles in the attack for the U.S. and the Galaxy.
The Whitecaps tweeted a GIF of the challenge, with the impression that it was clean.

The tackle is rash. There is no control from Watson during the challenge but the foul was not called. It is unlikely MLS retroactively suspends Watson for the challenge.
Zardes’ season had been a solid one up to this point as the 24-year-old found the back of the net on six occasions and assisted five goals.
