Mariners Beat The Angels 4-3

The Los Angeles Angels fell short once again in their 4-3 loss to the Seattle Mariners.

The toughest stretch of games continues for the Angels, the theme has been grabbing an early lead, falling behind and making a late surge, but this time, it didn’t work. The Mariners bullpen only allowed the final run, in the bottom of the ninth and closed out the Angels late charge.

Albert Pujols knocked in his team-leading 93rd RBI in the bottom of the first to kick off the scoring for the Halos. His single just cleared the glove of the Mariners shortstop Ketel Marte and scored Yunel Escobar from third. Jefry Marte‘s sac-fly scored Kole Calhoun to give the Angels their lead at 2-0.

Seattle came up with two pairs of runs in the second and fourth innings. Halos starter Tyler Skaggs (L,1-2), was replaced after on 3-1/3 innings pitched and Skaggs was charged with all four of the Mariners runs.
The Halos final run came in the bottom of the ninth on a single by Escobar, that scored Cliff Pennington, closing the scoring at 4-3.

HALO’S DUGOUT:

Yunel Escobar’s five for five was very impressive, and he’s now batting .316 for the season. He is ranked third in the American League and has been one of the best leadoff hitters in baseball.

ANGELS ON DECK:

The two teams will wrap up their series tonight in the fourth game of the series. Matt Shoemaker (6-13, 4.22 ERA), will start for the Angels. The Mariners will counter with Hisashi Iwakuma (14-7, 3.84 ERA), who has been very solid this season for Seattle. The Angels (50-70), have now lost 70 games this season and have fallen behind in the American League West, 21 full games behind the Texas Rangers.
