Dodger Debuts Spoiled In Loss To Rockies, 7-3

@Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the Colorado Rockies, 7-3, on the first game of a three-game set at Coors Field. The newest Dodgers failed to contribute in their debuts on a rainy night in Colorado.

RAIN DELAYS AND SPOILED DEBUTS

After a 40-minute rain delay in the 1st inning, Brandon McCarthy labored through three innings of work, giving up three earned runs on three hits. He walked five batters while striking out two on 85 pitches. The 33-year old righty took the loss.

Outfielder Josh Reddick, acquired from the Oakland Athletics during yesterday’s trade deadline, made his debut for the Dodgers, batting cleanup. Despite going hitless, he made a spectacular diving catch in the seventh.

Relief pitcher Jesse Chavez, acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays, made his debut in the sixth inning. He gave up two earned runs on three hits, while walking two batters.

SHUTOUT NO MORE

With the fear of getting shutout in a well-known hitter’s park, Justin Turner finally put the Dodgers on the board with a two-run double in the 8th inning. He has 62 RBIs on the year, surpassing his career-high of 60 RBIs last season.

Yasmani Grandal smashed his 16th home run of the season as he continues his power hitting month of July into the month of August, but it was not enough as the Dodgers lose to the Rockies.

NL WEST RACE AND PITCHING CHANGES

With the loss tonight, the Dodgers fall to 59-47 on the season, still within two games back of the Giants in the NL West standings.

Brock Stewart (0-1, 9.00 ERA) will take the hill for the Dodgers tomorrow, as the team re-shuffled their rotation prior to the game. The 24-year old lefty pitched against the Brewers earlier this season, giving up five earned runs while striking out seven batters.

The Dodgers will face Tyler Anderson (3-3, 3.33 ERA) as they try to inch closer to the Giants in the NL West race. First pitch is at 4:50 PM PST on SportsNet LA.
