Dodgers Win Wild One vs Arizona

Friday night’s affair had a little bit of everything, and satisfying ended in a Dodgers victory.

LA got two scorers frames from Kenta Maeda before taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a two-run double by Joc Pederson. Maeda tossed a couple more scoreless innings before the Dodgers extended their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by Andrew Toles.

Maeda continued to cruise before running into some trouble in the top of the seventh. He gave up a single and an RBI double before being pulled for Adam Liberatore, who walked the only batter he faced before handing it off to Joe Blanton. Blanton allowed the first four batters he faced to score, totaling two runs and a tie game. Luis Avilan came into the game and gave up an RBI infield single to the only batter he faced, then Pedro Baez came into the game and allowed all three inherited runners to score. It was a seven run inning for Arizona, and they took a 7-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh.

Maeda was charged with two runs over six and a third innings, Liberatore was charged with a run and couldn’t record an out, Blanton was charged with three runs over a third of an inning, Avilan was charged with a run and couldn’t record an out, and Baez allowed no runs over one-third of an inning despite allowing the three inherited runners to cross the plate.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Dodgers showed some grit. Joc Pederson went deep on a two-run blast to make it a 7-5 game, Utley went deep for the seventh time this season on a two-run shot to tie the game, 7-7, and Grandal gave LA the lead on an RBI single with two outs.

Louis Coleman and Kenley Jansen combined to toss a scoreless eighth, LA added a run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI double by Seager, and Jansen closed it out in the ninth to help lock down the 9-7 victory. What a game. The Dodgers are only one game back of San Fransisco.
