Rosenthal reported that the Orioles were also interested in acquiring Melvin Upton Jr. before he was dealt to the Toronto Blue Jays.
#Padres had extensive talks with #Orioles on Upton. Could stretch Cashner talks to deadline; he isn’t scheduled to pitch until Monday night.

Cashner’s name has been involved in many different trade talks as the deadline approaches. The Texas Rangers are looking for some starting pitching help as well as the Miami Marlins.
Cashner has been up and down this season but general managers around the league are hoping that a change of scenery will help the veteran return as a stable piece of the rotation. At the same time some executives see Cashner as a versatile pitcher that can pitch out of the bullpen if necessary.
