Upton is a former first round pick of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 2002 MLB Draft. He spent eight years with the Rays before joining the Atlanta Braves for two year followed by the Padres.
This season Upton is batting .256 with 16 home runs and 45 RBI’s. He has stolen 20 bases but has also struck out 106 times in 92 games.
San Diego is working to collect assets as they try and rebuild the roster for the future. Expect Andrew Cashner and possibly Derek Norris get moved this week as well.
