Dodgers Drop 16 Inning Marathon In St. Louis

@stlcards_fanly

The Dodgers suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 loss in St. Louis on Friday, a 16 inning affair which ended in a Matt Adams walk-off home run.

LA took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Corey Seager plating Chase Utley. Aledmys Diaz gave St. Louis a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third on a two-out RBI single, with the go-ahead run scoring on an error by Joc Pederson. Both starters settled down nicely, but Howie Kendrick had something to say about that in the top of the sixth inning when he tied the game on his fifth bomb of the season.

Brandon McCarthy lasted six and a third innings for Los Angeles, allowing two runs and only one of them earned. Michael Wacha tossed six strong innings for the Cardinals, allowing two runs. Both starters were credited with no-decisions.

Adam Liberatore and Joe Blanton each combined for one and two-thirds scoreless frames to help get the game to the ninth in a 2-2 tie. Justin Turner continues comes through in the clutch, and did so again on Friday. His 18th HR of the season gave the Dodgers a brief 3-2 lead, but Kenley Jansen fifth blown save of the season sent the game to extras. Jedd Gyorko did the honors for St. Louis, launching a game-tying HR with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.
Louis Coleman tossed a scoreless 10th, Grant Dayton a scoreless 11th and 12th, Pedro Baez a scoreless 13th, J.P. Howell a scoreless 14th, and Bud Norris a scoreless 15th on short rest. Norris returned for the 16th but only recorded one out before giving up the game winning bomb to Matt Adams. He took the loss and the Cardinals took the win, by a final of 4-3 in 16 innings.
