Edwin Jackson To Start Today
- Updated: July 17, 2016
Recently acquired Edwin Jackson will be asked to start today for the San Diego Padres as they take on the San Francisco Giants.
Although he has spent some time in Triple-A, the Padres rookie-manager doesn’t feel his ERA reflects the talent the veteran still possesses.Today will mark Edwin Jackson’s debut.
When asked about it Andy Green said the following:
“His stuff’s still there. I just watched his last start. It wasn’t great from a stats perspective, but his stuff is up to 95 and 96 at times. … His stuff plays. It’s played here to a no-hit fashion before at the major league level so the general belief is we’ll put him together with Darren Balsley, get a good game plan together, let him know what to execute and he’ll use his experience as well.”
The Miami Marlins released Jackson in June and the Padres swooped in and put him on the team soon after his release. Green thinks Jackson has what it takes to use the opportunity and succeed.
“He’s got the opportunity,” Green said. “Obviously, everything is predicated on how he throws the baseball, and if he throws the baseball well we have no reason to try to rush him out or flip him anywhere else.
“We hope he’s a stabilizing force in the rotation.”
Let’s see how he plays today! You can catch the game at 12:40 pm PST on FSSD, CSBA.
