Dodgers Beat Padres 3-1

@Dodgers

The Dodgers gained some momentum in their final series before the All-Star break, beating the Padres 3 out of 4. LA cruised to a 10-6 victory on Friday, escaped with a 4-3 win on Saturday, and held San Diego to only three hits in a 3-1 win in the series finale on Sunday.

The Dodgers grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the 1st on Sunday on an RBI single by Corey Seager plating Howie Kendrick, then extended their lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the 2nd when Kendrick plated Scott Van Slyke from 2nd on an RBI single to left.

Kenta Maeda was cruising through 4 scoreless innings until giving up the first and only Padres’ run of the day on a solo shot by Derek Norris in the 5th. Maeda ended up lasting 7 very strong innings in which he allowed only two hits and the lone run. His ERA dipped below 3.00 to 2.95, and he would eventually earn his 8th win of the season (8-6).

In the bottom of the 5th, Adrian Gonzalez went deep for the 7th time this season to get the Dodgers’ lead back to two, and the 3-1 lead was more than enough for the Dodgers’ bullpen, which has been absolutely outstanding lately. Joe Blanton tossed a scoreless 8th and Kenley Jansen recorded his 27th save of the season, working around a bit of trouble in the 9th.

The game went final by a score of 3-1, giving the Dodgers their third consecutive win and sending the Padres to their third consecutive loss.

The 2016 MLB All-Star Game is Tuesday evening, and the Dodgers will send two players to San Diego to represent LA; Kenley Jansen and Corey Seager. Clayton Kershaw was originally selected and thought to be the NL starter but his DL stint is keeping him from playing in this year’s Mid-Summer Classic. LA will open a 3 game set with the Diamondbacks at the conclusion of the All-Star break.
