Angels Make It Four In A Row, Beating Baltimore 9-5
- Updated: July 9, 2016
The Los Angeles Angels spoiled the Baltimore Orioles celebrations after they took the first game of the series, 9-5.
The Baltimore Orioles were celebrating the anniversary of the team’s first World Championship. The joy was erased when the Angels jumped on Ubaldo Jimenez (L,5-9), who only lasted an inning and a third. Los Angeles scored early and often with all of their runs coming in five of the first six innings.
Matt Shoemaker (W,4-9) picked up the win after a good performance on the mound. Shoemaker went five full innings only allowing five hits, giving up only three of the Orioles five runs and striking out four. He ended a personal four-game losing streak.
HALO’S DUGOUT:
BAD NEWS, C.J. Cron fractured his left hand when he was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning by Orioles pitcher Mike Wright. Cron was the Angels hottest hitter to this point and one of the key players that helped spark this current winning streak. The team has placed Cron on the 15 day Disabled List and have activated Catcher Geovany Soto from the DL. They have also recalled first baseman Ji-Man Choi. The team has also optioned Carlos Perez back to Triple-A Salt Lake.
ANGELS ON DECK:
The two teams will continue their series tonight. Nick Tropeano (3-2, 3.28 ERA) will start for the Halo’s, while Yovani Gallardo (3-1, 6.10 ERA) will take the hill for the Orioles. The Angels have now moved out of the American League Western cellar, leaping over the Oakland A’s, and into fourth place in the division.
