Rivers, the son of Doc Rivers played high school ball in Winter Park, Florida and is the same place where his dad got his coaching start. The Clippers are in Orlando for the summer league and so the two sides were able to discuss the possibility of Rivers coming back to the club.
With this season’s inflated cap players like Rivers can make double the money they would usually make in free agency. Rivers is a young athletic point guard who will draw interest from a few teams around the league including the Portland Trail Blazers and New York Knicks.
On the Clippers Rivers has built strong relationships with Jamal Crawford and Chris Paul along with some other veterans on the club. Austin has come into his own since his arrival to the team at midseason of 2015.
