Angels Lose In Boston, 5-4
- Updated: July 2, 2016
The Angels started their weekend series on a down note, as they lose the opener to the Boston Red Sox, 5-4.
David Ortiz may want to reconsider his retirement plans, the slugger moved past legendary Red Sox icon Ted Williams and into 19th place on the all-time time home run list, as he slammed his 522nd homer of his career, and the hit was his 2,000th of his career as well. A rear accomplishment on one swing of the bat.
The game was stopped for a 1:35-minute rain delay in the bottom of the sixth inning. Before the delay, CJ Cron hit a grand slam which scored Daniel Nava, Albert Pujols, and Jefry Marte. The runs were all that the Angels would be able to produce in this game.
HALO’S DUGOUT:
A very controversial call in the top of the ninth inning for the Angels might have been the difference. Daniel Nava laced a nice hit down the right field line, which should have been a triple. The umpires ruled that there wasn’t any fan interference on the play. Instead of Mike Trout scoring, Nava was awarded a double and Trout was left at third base.
This game was also very historic, as we had a chance to see two players in the exclusive 500 home run club. Albert Pujols with 574 and David Ortiz with 522.
ANGELS ON DECK:
The two teams will continue their series from Fenway This evening at 7:15 pm EST. The Angels (32-48), will send Hector Santiago
(4-4, 5.27 ERA), to the mound. Boston will go with Clay Buchholz
(3-8, 5.90 ERA). The Halo’s are now in a four-game slump and will try to find a formula to get out the basement of the American League West.
