Fans and Players of the Former Rams Demand for the Classic Blue and Yellow Jerseys

On Thursday night, the Los Angeles Rams returned to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for their first event in their old and new home since coming back in January. After the long awaited period, former and Ram players interacted with their fans on the field as they explored the Coliseum. However, NFL player props indicate that the majority of the players and fans wore the classic blue and yellow jerseys. However, when they play in the new venue this season, they players will wear the New Century Gold and Millennium Blue uniforms, which many fans and players have already rejected.

Fred Dryer, one of Ram’s former players expressed his disappointment stating that the players and fans looked divided, stupid and senseless when he saw them leaving the Coliseum tunnel. The 1972-1981 Ram’s defensive end resorted to professional acting after leaving the team.

According to NFL rules, the Rams can only play twice in their classic blue and yellow uniforms in the coming season, as the maximum number of times the league makes allowances for alternate throwback uniforms. For teams to change uniforms, they have to make a written request to the NFL between January and March, but they can only implement such changes after two years. The Rams have no plans to make any of such changes until they occupy their new Inglewood stadium in 2019.

According to Dryer, the Rams should not dare wear the uniform even if they cannot make the changes now. Many other former players and fans at the Coliseum shared similar sentiments as Dryer’s. Erick Dickerson, the Ram’s former running back, said that the classic blue and yellow jerseys are the best and the Rams should strive to maintain them even though the league is constantly about the money. He expresses that he hopes the Los Angeles Rams will revert to play in their classic uniforms because it represents them.

Many fans and former players questioned the Ram’s chief operating officer and the executive vice president of football operations, Kevin Demoff, about the uniforms after receiving the team. Demoff insisted that the desired jerseys are their throwback alternate uniforms; therefore, the Rams will only play in them twice. However, the management is coming up with new jerseys for the new Inglewood stadium. According to Demoff, they will implement a program in the meantime to fulfil the desires of fans, as they prepare for Inglewood. He said that the most important thing was having the team back and the uniforms will follow.

After all, the fans and players should now be satisfied that the Rams are back to the Coliseum. Even if they will have to wait until 2019 to change their jerseys and they will not also play much in the classic blue and yellow jerseys next season, their team is back in Los Angeles. Jackie Slater, the former offensive tackle for the Rams, said that the best uniform was the one he played in years ago. He even hopes that the Rams choose to revive those uniforms immediately because most fans in Southern California recognize them.
