Washington Nationals 8, San Diego Padres 5

The Washington Nationals (42-25) were able to win game one of four against the San Diego Padres (27-41) in this weekend series.
Nationals starting pitcher Tanner Roark (6-4, 3.14 ERA) W [6.0 IP, 7 Hits, 5 K’s, 4 ER] won his start versus Erik Johnson (0-4, 7.66 ERA) L [6.0 IP, 7 Hits, 2 K’s 5 ER]
The scoring began in the bottom of the first inning when both Matt Kemp then Melvin Upton hit RBI singles. This gave the Padres an early 2-0 lead. The Nationals scored one run in the top of the second inning as it was 2-1.
During the top of the third inning Bryce Harper hit a two run home run to left field. Washington regained the lead at 3-2. Catcher Wilson Ramos hit a solo shot homer to center field as the Nationals were up 4-2.
Padres first baseman Wil Myers hit a solo home run to answer as it was 4-3 Washington in the bottom of the fifth. In the top of the sixth inning Anthony Rendon hit a home run to left center field for a 5-3 lead.
Through the rest of the game the Nationals scored 3 more runs. While the Padres managed to score 2 more runs for a final score of 8-5.
Tonight at 7:40 PM PT game 2 will begin. Nationals starting pitcher Joe Ross 5-4, 3.01 ERA) will take on Padres starter Christian Friedrich (3-1, 2.12 ERA)
