Angels Give Up Erik Kratz For Cash
- Updated: June 11, 2016
The Los Angeles Angels has just traded catcher Erik Kratz to the Pittsburgh Pirates, in exchange for cash considerations. Kratz who is 36 years old, had just signed a minor league contract with the Angels on May 26th, after being released by the Houston Astros just after the start of the season.
Kratz is expected to replace the injured Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli, who was lost due to a broken hamate bone in his left hand. Entering his seventh major league season, Kratz has a lifetime batting average of .210, with 23 homers and 69 RBI’s, in 207 career games. He will be returning back to his original team the Pirates, where he made his debut back in 2010.
With the Angels struggling they are looking to adding some financial flexibility in order to make a move later on one would guess. The team has not performed at the level they want to be at.
