Heyman reported details of the trade.
SD will be getting $ relief (but will pay down portion). Chisox said no to Tim Anderson or other top prospects.

Heyman reported that even though Shields can opt out this summer he will most stay up and secure the money owed to him.
While shields has an opt-out after this season, it’s unlikely he’d walk away from $42M over 2 years #chisox#padres

Heyman also reported that the commissioner will have to approve this deal due to the financial significance of the deal for both parties.
One of the details to go is commish approval, which is required when millions change hands, as is the case here #shields

Last summer the Padres went out and signed Shields and forfeited their first round pick in the process. With the team struggling and an obvious rebuild on the horizon the club decided now was the time to start tearing the roster apart.
