Loney is a former first round pick by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2002 MLB draft. He spent seven years with the Dodgers before joining the Boston Red Sox followed by the Tampa Bay Rays.
This year Loney was a late addition to the Padres roster and hasn’t seen anytime at the major league level. With the Mets struggling with injuries to Lucas Duda because of his back issues they wanted to add a veteran to the lineup and Loney comes at a fairly cheap price.
