Madison Bumgarner struck out 11 batters on his way to a complete game victory as the San Diego Padres fell to the San Francisco Giants 5-1.
For the Padres Colin Rea got the start. He pitched 5 innings allowing 4 hits and 3 runs. He walked 2 and struck out 3 as he picked up his second loss of the year.
The offense started in the second inning. Brandon Crawford hit a three-run home run that brought in Brandon Belt and Hunter Pence.
In the sixth inning Crawford was at it again. He hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Buster Posey and pushed the Giants lead to 4-0.
Crawford hit a RBI double in the 8th inning that brought in Pence and was Crawford’s fifth RBI of the night. Matt Kemp hit a solo shot in the 9th inning to put the Padres on the board. That would be the last of the comeback and the Padres fell 5-1.
San Diego and San Francisco will square off tonight at Petco Park.
