San Diego Padres 3, Milwaukee Brewers 0

The San Diego Padres (16-20) were able to win game one of four against the Milwaukee Brewers (14-21). Not only was this a good win for the Padres it was a shutout win as well.

Padres ace James Shields (2-5, 3.12 ERA) W [7.0 IP, 7 Hits, 9 K’s, 0 ER] earned his second win of the season against Jimmy Nelson (4-3, 3.51 ERA) L [8.0 IP, 5 Hits, 5 K’s, 2 ER]

This scoring began in the top of the fourth inning. Left fielder Melvin Upton Jr. hit a RBI single to left field as first baseman Wil Myers scored to give San Diego a 1-0 lead.

During the top of the seventh inning the run support for Shields continued. Short stop Alexei Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly to left fielder Ryan Braun as Melvin Upton Jr. scored. In the top of the ninth Upton Jr. hit a solo home run to center field as the final was 3-0.

Tonight at 5:10 PM PT game two of this series will begin. Milwaukee Brewers starter Junior Guerra (1-0, 6.00 ERA) will start against Padres starter Christian Friedrich (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
