San Francisco Giants 5, San Diego Padres 4

The San Francisco Giants (10-11) were able to win game one of three against their divisional foe the San Diego Padres (7-13). This game was very close as one run decided this contest.
Giants ace Madison Bumgarner (2-2, 3.64 ERA) W [6.2 IP, 6 Hits, 9 K’s, 2 ER] beat Padres starter Drew Pomeranz (2-2, 2.86 ERA) L [4.1 IP, 7 Hits, 6 K’s, 3 ER] Pomeranz wouldn’t qualify for the win as he only pitched four innings.
Left fielder Angel Pagan hit an RBI single as first baseman Brandon Belt scored in the bottom of the second inning. San Diego tied up the game in the top of the third inning. Center fielder Jon Jay returned the favor with an RBI single to center field as infielder Jemile Weeks scored.
After a 1-1 tie, right fielder Hunter Pence hit a solo homerun to left field as San Francisco went up 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Pagan extended the lead to 3-1 with his RBI double to left field. During the bottom of the fifth inning Pence hit a sacrifice fly to Jon Jay as second baseman Joe Panik scored for a 4-1 lead.
The Padres didn’t go down without a fight. Catcher Derrick Norris hit an RBI double as outfielder Matt Kemp scored for a 4-2 score. In the bottom of the seventh Giants catcher Buster Posey hit a solo home run to left field as it was 5-2.
San Diego managed to score two more runs in the bottom of the eighth as their rally fell just short. The final here was 5-4 San Francisco as the Giants took game one.
Tonight at 7:15 PM PT game two of this series will begin. Padres starter James Shields (0-3, 4.15 ERA) will face Giants number two starter Johnny Cueto (3-1, 3.49 ERA)
