Pirela originally signed with the New York Yankees back in 2006. He spent two years with the Yankees before the joining San Diego this year.
Last season with the Yankees he played in 37 games and hit .230. Three of his seventeen hits were doubles last year and he should be able to provide some depth at the in the infield and outfield.
San Diego used Pirela in the lineup last night and he went 1-1 with a double.
