San Diego Padres 8, Pittsburgh Pirates 2

The San Diego Padres (6-9) have won two straight games over the Pittsburgh Pirates (7-8) bringing them below .500 This is displaying that the Padres have began to pick up from their struggles earlier on in the year.
Padres starting pitcher Drew Pomeranz (2-1, 2.04 ERA) W [6.2 IP, 4 Hits, 10 K’s, 0 ER] was great against Pirates starting pitcher Jeff Locke (0-2, 7.24 ERA) L [3.0 IP, 11 Hits, 2 K’s, 8 ER]
The scoring in this contest began in the bottom of the second inning. San Diego put up four runs in the second inning as shortstop Alexei Ramirez, second baseman Jemile Weeks, outfielder Jon Jay, and lastly first baseman Wil Myers hit RBI singles.
This gave the Padres a 4-0 lead at the end of the second inning. In the bottom of the third inning, Alexei Ramirez hit an RBI triple as catcher Derek Norris scored extending their lead to 5-0. Third baseman Adam Rosales hit an RBI single to center field as Ramirez scored for a 6-0 advantage.
Even pitcher Drew Pomeranz provided his own run support with an RBI single as it was 7-0 Padres. In the bottom of the fourth inning Matt Kemp hit his fifth home run of the season with a solo homer to center field putting San Diego up 8-0 at the end of the fourth inning.
Pittsburgh managed to score two runs, one in the top of the seventh and eighth innings. Thus making the final score here 8-2. Tonight at 6:10 PM PT the series finale will start.
Pirates ace Gerrit Cole (0-2, 4.22 ERA) will face Padres ace James Shields (0-2, 4.05 ERA) as San Diego looks for the sweep over Pittsburgh. Also while both of these pitchers look for their first win of the season.
