Yesterday at Citizens Bank Park the Philadelphia Phillies (3-5) were able to even the series with a 3-0 shutout win against the San Diego Padres (3-5). After the Phillies lost yesterday 4-3 to the Padres they responded to say the least.
Newly acquired Phillies starting pitcher Charlie Morton (1-1, 5.23 ERA) W [6.2 IP, 3 Hits, 7 K’s, 4 BB] won his first start of the season against Padres starter Robbie Erlin (1-1, 0.93 ERA) L [6.0 IP, 3 Hits, 7 K’s, 2 BB]
This game was a pitchers duel until the bottom of the sixth inning. Phillies center fielder Odubel Herrera hit an RBI triple as left fielder Tyler Goeddel scored to make it 1-0 Philadelphia.
In the bottom of the eighth inning the game was opened up. Due to a challenged slide interference call runs would score after an it was reviewed and upheld. Phillies third baseman Maikel Franco grounded out to Padres shortstop Alexei Ramirez as Cedric Hunter and Emmanuel Burriss scored.
This gave the Phillies a 3-0 lead and eventual win. Phillie relief pitcher Jeanmar Gomez (0-0, 0.00 ERA) [S 3] earned his third save of the season. At 4:05 PM PT Padres starter Colin Rea (0-0, 12.46 ERA) will face Phillies starter Jerad Eickhoff (0-1, 3.60 ERA)
