RECAP: Angels Shutdown In Opener, In A 9-0 Loss To The Cubs

@Angels

The 2016 season opened for the Los Angeles Angels on a sour note, as the Angels were blanked by the Chicago Cubs, 9-0.

For many of baseball world that have predictions, this Chicago Cubs team are one of the favorites that will be playing deep into the month of October, the Angels got a clear vision of that, yesterday.

The Angels had made a change for Opening Day 2016, no Erick Aybar, their long-time staple at shortstop, in at short was Andrelton Simmons, who was making his Angels debut and should be a key player in the team’s defensive makeup this season. For the first time in his career, Garrett Richards was the starting pitcher for the Halo’s, instead of Jered Weaver, who has started the past six seasons.

There wasn’t a whole lot of offense to report in this game, the Cubs and starter Jake Arrieta, who was coming off an outstanding 2015, which was capped off with a Cy Young award, was simply too much for the Angels in this one. Arrieta allowed only two hits, in seven innings of work, striking-out six, while sitting down Mike Trout twice.

ANGELS DUGOUT:

The Halos have now lost their third straight Opening Day game, and we have to go back to 2013, when the beat the Cincinnati Reds in Cincinnati to start the season off in the win column. From 2009-2013, the Angels were perfect on Opening Day, with wins over Oakland, Minnesota, Kansas City twice and the Reds.

HALO’S ON DECK:

The team will try to get even with the Cubs tonight, at 7:05 PST, at the Big “A.” The task won’t be an easy one, as the Cubs will send Jon Lester to the hill, to face the Angels Andrew Heaney.

We all know that this is only the first game of a 162 game schedule, but the division and the American League is going to be really tough this season. We all expect the team to do well, that’s why everyone should stay with CaliSports News for the complete and in-depth coverage of our Halos this is going to be a great season, and I personally see great things in-store for the Halos.
