This the first time that Ross will be the opening day starter. Even though Ross had a great season last year the Padres did go out and sign James Shields last season.
Ross went 10-12 with a 3.26 ERA and struck out a career high 212 strikeouts. With new manager Andy Green the Padres are looking to right the ship after a disappointing season last year.
Congratulations Ross!
