Redick Three Saves Clips, Win 98-92
- Updated: February 8, 2016
The Los Angeles Clippers came into Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Monday night, coming off a hot stretch of games that included a road win against the Miami Heat on Super Bowl Sunday by 7. The Sixers were a league-worst 8-43 coming into the contest and would look to improve in what ended up being an Overtime thriller thanks to the Clippers own JJ Redick.
Early turnovers from the Clippers in this one forced Doc Rivers to call what may have been the quickest timeout from the club so far in the season as he stopped play with his team trailing 6-2. Jamal Crawford stepped in off the bench for the Clippers and helped the club get a little bit of momentum going as he dropped in seven for the quarter. It wouldn’t be enough though as the team shot 33% from the field with four turnovers as they trailed 25-22, thanks to a 13-4 run to tighten up the Philadelphia lead late in the first.
The Second quarter would be when the Sixers really got their game rolling. Some very disappointing effort from Los Angeles helped Philly extend what was just a three-point lead to a massive nineteen point advantage. Robert Covington would help his club by putting in 11 points in the half, meanwhile the Clippers were led in scoring by Redick who had 15 but not much help. The Clippers would shoot 34% from the field while the Sixers would shoot 50% for the half. Another big run to end the quarter for Los Angeles allowed them to close that gap to just 10 as Philly would lead 59-49.
Cutting into that Sixers lead was all the Clippers had in mind come the start of the third and that is exactly what they would do as that one time nineteen point deficit would be whittled down to only six with just as many minutes remaining.

Some poor effort by the Clipper defense allowed the Sixers and particularly rookie Jahlil Okafor to get some easy put backs on second chance opportunities to grow their lead. Okafor would end the quarter with 14 points and 8 rebounds total in the game as seemingly no one on the Clippers wanted to box the young big-man out. Going into the final quarter of play though the Clippers would once more be able to tighten the score up, 73-65 Sixers.
In a sentiment anybody who saw this game would agree with, Dan Woike of the Orange County Register had this to say prior to the start of the final quarter of play,
If the Sixers weren’t the Sixers, the Clippers would be the DownBy36ers

Slowly but surely this fourth quarter saw the Clippers slowly erode at the Sixer lead that seemed to be impenetrable all night cutting it down to just 2 with just over three minutes to go in the contest. Paul and Redick tried to shoot Los Angeles back into the game but as was customary on the night, neither could get anything to go in. Philadelphia looked to be playing this one tightly towards the end of the game as they appeared to start running clock with still over two minutes remaining. Finally with just ten seconds to go in this one Redick would knock in a huge triple to tie it up at 88!

A poor final play call for the Sixers that would have Okafor shooting a shot far out of his range would send this one into Overtime.
Los Angeles came out hot to start the Overtime period and would quickly jump out to a six point 94-88 lead thanks to some swift buckets from Paul and Crawford. Some back and forth play by both teams that included plenty of fouls muddled up the end of the extra period but the quick start would be enough to propel the Clippers to victory, 98-92.
A much too close for comfort win for the Clippers over a very poor Sixers team. Some poor effort early almost cost the club the game but luckily they were playing a team that talent wise just wasn’t up to their level and they were able to pull this one out. Sometimes it isn’t about how pretty the win is as long as it’s a win.
DeAndre Jordan had a massive night on the boards for his team as he hauled in a much-needed 21 board to go with 12 points in yet another double-double for the center. Paul put up 19 points to go with 7 assists, 6 rebounds and 4 steals while Redick had 23 points with 3 three-pointers. Crawford would lead all bench players for Los Angeles with a stellar 23 points for the two-time sixth-man of the year award winner.
Los Angeles will take on Boston on Wednesday in what will be the final game of this four game road trip that the Clippers will be looking to finish a perfect 4-0.
