Lakers End Skid, With A 119-115 Win Over Minnesota
- Updated: February 3, 2016
The Lakers have finally ended their ten-game losing streak, by beating the Minnesota Timberwolves for the first time this season, 119-115.
On Kobe Bryant‘s jersey night, Bryant played one of his best games of the season, as he totally took over this game. Bryant scored 38 points, on 10 of 21 from the field, 11 of 12 from the foul line and was clutch down the stretch, in leading Los Angeles to the victory.
Julius Randle collected another double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, to provide the second scoring punch and as a defensive anchor. Lou Williams added 20 points and gave the Lakers some much needed help from beyond the 3-point arch, hitting 3 of the 6 shots taken from deep.
Jordan Clarkson and D’Angelo Russell helped the Lakers to get back into the win column, with stellar performances as well. Clarkson scored 16 as a starter and Russell lead all bench players in scoring with 18.
A TEACHING MOMENT: Timberwolves Guard Andrew Wiggins had some time to chat with Kobe Bryant, during last night’s contest. In the post game interview, Kobe mentioned that he and Wiggins had brief chats in his final matchup, just as he and Michael Jordan did back when Kobe was learning the ends and outs of the game. It just shows how the youth of today’s game has the respect to learn form the modern day legends. Wiggins led the T-Wolves in scoring, with 30 points.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS FOR THE LAKERS:
In a game that featured two struggling teams, some of the numbers were impressive for our Lakers. The Timberwolves shot better, out rebounded the Lakers and dished out more assist, but Los Angeles won the turnover battle, only turning the ball over nine times, which is very impressive for a team that hasn’t played well this season. Los Angeles also took the ball away from the Wolves nine time, in which helped their defense tremendously. The Lakers shots very well from both the field and from three-point range, with an even 50% from the floor and a very nice percentage for downtown,(46%, 12 of 26), with Kobe Bryant sinking a season high seven three-pointers.
NEXT UP FOR THE LAKERS:
Los Angeles (10-41), will travel to “The Big Easy,” New Orleans, to face the Pelicans on Thursday night, which is the second game of the TNT Network’s game of the week. Check out the Lakers at 9:30 pm EST. The Lakers will be looking for their second straight win, just remember that the Lakers beat the Pelicans, in their last meeting at the Staples Center, before the ten-game skid. Pelicans forward Anthony Davis was not available to play that game, due to injuries. Los Angeles is still in the NBA’s Pacific Division basement, 35.5 games behind the Golden State Warriors.
