Dodgers Acquire Erick Mejia for Joe Wieland

Today the Dodgers acquire INF Erick Mejia from the Seattle Mariners for RHP Joe Wieland. Joe Wieland was acquired from the Padres in the trade that sent Matt Kemp to the San Diego Padres for Catcher Yasmani Grandal and RHP Zach Eflin who was sent to the Phillies for Jimmy Rollins.

Joe Wieland made 4 starts for the AAA Oklahoma City Dodgers before being called up to pitch against the Milwaukee Brewers giving up 6 earned runs in 4 and 2/3 inning. He was then back down to AAA before making another start in the majors and didn’t appear against for the major league team until September 9th giving up 2 earned runs in 4 innings of work.

The Dodgers return is a middle infielder who has played both 2B and SS in his minor league career. He has good bat control, very little power (only a single home-run in 458 career at-bats) but good speed. He last saw time for the Mariners for the A ball Clinton LumberKings of the Midwest League.
