Payton is a respected coach around the league and actually got his coaching career started at San Diego State as an offensive assistant.
He was a quarterbacks coach with the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants before becoming the offensive coordinator for the Giants in 2000.
He then went on to Dallas where he was the assistant head coach and then got his first head coaching job in New Orleans. With the Saints he won the 2009 Super Bowl with Drew Brees as the starting quarterback.
