LA Kings ShutOut Habs 3-0

@LAKingsPR

If you heard that the LA Kings were going to be playing the Habs, the last thing you would think of is the Kings shutting out Montreal. The game had been Montreal dominant for the first half of the game due to very good puck possession, aggressiveness, as well as the LA Kings taking very poor penalties towards the end of the period. The Kings had been having multiple penalty kills early on giving the flow of the game over to Montreal. If Jonathan Quick had not been on his game, many of Montreal’s scoring chances would have been converted into goals. Late into the second period after a power play, Drew Doughty hits a slap shot that sailed right into the back of the net. It was immediately after the power play ended which is unfortunate in the aspects of the King’s power play stats. 1:37 later, Anze Kopitar buried a rebound giving the Kings a 2-0 lead. Into the third period there were many rushes going back and forth for both teams offensively, but the final goal scored was an empty netter by Marian Gaborik.

Michael Mersch got a promotion last night! He was moved up to the second line, putting Milan Lucic on the first, but sadly moving Tanner Pearson down to the third line with Nick Shore and Dustin Brown. Last night, it didn’t show much on the scoreboard other than the top line was getting more offensive chances having Lucic able to push people around the ice. It was heated, Lucic is not really a fan favorite in Montreal being a former Bruin. Throughout the game you could hear him on TV being booed by more or less the entire stadium.

The last goal that Quick had allowed by the Ottawa Senators was a bit rough and a goal that easily could have been avoided, but that didn’t stop Jonathan from having a bounce back night. Recording a 3-0 shutout and it being his first against Montreal was definitely a good bounce back. The Los Angeles Kings had just finished their 5th game, out of a 6 game road trip and are currently 3-1-1 which is way better than some had expected. I personally was expecting the Kings to go 3-2-1 with the losses being Montreal and Ottawa in regulation. If the Kings do beat The Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday recording the trip being 4-1-1, the Kings could land themselves to be 3rd in the league, and having a solid first place position in the Pacific Division.

    Kopitar’s goal was NOT on a rebound, but a beautiful pass by Doughty through traffic.
