Lakers Fall Short In Atlanta, Losing To The Hawks 100-87

The Lakers road-trip continued to the Phillips Arena in Atlanta, were the team was defeated by the Atlanta Hawks, 100-87.
Kobe Bryant, in his final appearance in Atlanta, ended this game with 14 points on 4 of 19 from the field. Bryant also showed off his great passing skills, leading the team with five assists. The Lakers received a big game from rookie D’Angelo Russell with 16 points and he also grabbed 10 rebounds, for a season high and a very impressive double-double. Jordan Clarkson added 13 points, as he was perfect from the three-point stripe, sinking all three shots from long range.
The Hawks were led by Al Horford with 16 points and 9 boards, who dominated on both ends of the court. Paul Millsap also added 15 points and he grabbed 8 rebounds for the Hawks in the victory.
A real bright spot for the Lakers was the play of former Hawks guard Lou Williams, who led the Lakers in scoring from the bench, with 18 points, in the 31 minutes he was on the floor. Williams also had a very nice showing to his former team, as he was 50% from three-point range.
The Hawks (13-9), came out on fire, while the Lakers seemed to be slow and still be stuck in neutral in the beginning of this game, as the Hawks build an early seven-point lead. The Lakers finally got on the scoreboard at the 7:35 of the quarter. The team made improvements but the Hawks manage to build a commanding 19 point lead at one point in the game. The Lakers did cut the lead down to six in the fourth quarter but the Hawks went on a run, that the Lakers could not overcome, to put the game out of reach.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS FOR THE LAKERS:
As the team struggled through another game, they had a bright spot in this game, the team made 13 threes to the Hawks 10. Kyle Korver, who is known to be a deadly three-point specialist, only managed to hit only one shot, from outside. Head Coach Byron Scott only used nine players in this contest, no Nick Young in this one?
The Hawks shot an impressive 50% from the floor and the Lakers were held to 37% for the game.
NEXT UP FOR THE LAKERS:
The team will travel to Detroit, to take on the Pistons at the Palace of Auburn Hills on Sunday afternoon. The Pistons are coming into the game after a big win over the Milwaukee Bucks. The Lakers (3-16), will try to pick up win number four on the season, as they will get their second shot at the Pistons. Los Angeles is now 16.5 games behind the Golden State Warriors, in the NBA’s Pacific Division.
