Lob City MVP – Los Angeles Clippers Week 5

After the 5th week of the NBA season, the Los Angeles Clippers are sitting at an impressive 13-5 record. The Clips went undefeated for the week, 4-0. The games really were not even that close at all. The closest a game ended up being was a difference of 14 points against the Utah Jazz.
Game #1: Los Angeles Clippers 102 , Houston Rockets 85
A very nice win for the Clips as they took out a formidable opponent in the western conference, the Houston Rockets. The Clippers outscored the Rockets in every quarter as they would control the game for its entirety.
Blake Griffin would be the #1 scorer for the Clippers having 30 for the game to go along with 10 rebounds. Griffin would also be 8-8 from the free throw line.
Jamal Crawford, coming off the bench, would be the #2 scorer with 21 for the game on 7-12 shooting. Point guard, Chris Paul, would also have a nice game but in different ways other than scoring.
For one, Paul had 0 turnovers for the night which is tremendous for a guy handling the ball for most of the game. Paul would also have great court vision on the defensive end having 5 steals for the night.
Game #2: Los Angeles Clippers 112, Utah Jazz 96
Another great, overall game by the Clippers as their usual players came out to ball. Like last game, Griffin, Paul, and Crawford would all come out to perform.
Griffin would have 28 points for the game on a nice 13-18 shooting from the field. Heck, Griffin was even 1-1 from the 3-point line which is uncharacteristic of him. Griffin did, however, only have 6 rebounds in this game which is somewhat concerning although other big man, DeAndre Jordan, took most of the boards having 12.
Paul would have a nice game having 17 points and 10 assists for the game. Crawford would also have another good night having 22 points in 28 minutes of play.
Relating back to the rebounding, while this appeared to be a pretty decisive game, the teams equaled out on the rebounding battle. This should never be the case especially when you win by 14 points. The only question mark so far for the Clippers.
Game #3: Minnesota Timberwolves 101, Los Angeles Clippers 127
I think the Clippers heard my remark about their poor rebounding in their previous game. The Clips came back strong to win the rebounding battle in this one, 50-32.
DeAndre Jordan would be the man with the most rebounds (like every game for the Clips) this time with 13. Jordan would also have 11 points for the game and 4 blocks.
J.J. Redick and Griffin would share the scoring title with 23 for the game. Redick would do most of his damage from the 3-point line being 4-5 for the game.
Game #4 – Orlando Magic 86, Los Angeles Clippers 114
A nice showing by the starting group for the Clips is what gave them the easy victory in this one. The Clippers bench would only combine for 29 points.
Griffin would be the leading scorer with 21 points and Redick would be the #2 scorer with 20 for the game.
Jordan, once again, would dominate the boards having 16 for the game which would be 34% of the Clippers’ total rebounds for the game.
Paul would also not disappoint having 19 for the game and 10 assists for the game.
Lob City MVP:
Lob City MVP was a tough one to judge this week as multiple played well in getting the Clippers 4 wins this past week. The award really came down to two players but we have to go with…J.J. Redick. 46%
Redick played exceptional this past week scoring 17.8 points per game and Redick shot 46% from the 3-point line. Redick was definitely able to take some of the load off Griffin and Paul this past week.
The honorable mention does have to go to Chris Paul who did not score a whole bunch but did distribute the ball effectively having at least 7 assists in all four games this past week. Paul would also protect the ball well having only 5 total turnovers in the four games.
