Los Angeles Dodgers Claim Ryan Lavarnway

The Los Angeles Dodgers have claimed catcher Ryan Lavarnway from the Boston Red Sox and have also designated fellow backstop Drew Butera.

Lavarnway has been apart of the MLB for four seasons but has struggled at the plate. He posted a combined .201/.377/.315 batting line in 301 plate appearances.

He was previously ranked as a Top 100 prospect by both the MLB.com and Baseball Prospectus.

Lavarnway also has a strong minor league track record, which includes .284/.37/.488 triple-salsh in 1102 Triple-A plate appearances. He has caught just 10 of 63 potential base stealers in the Majors.

Drew Butera is a glove-first catcher that has never hit anything spectacular, at any level. He has just a .183/.239/.268 batting line in the Majors. He has received 733 plate appearances between the Minnesota Twins and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
