Did Blake Griffin Really Get Ejected In The 1st Half?

So last week I got home from the gym hoped in the shower, grabbed a snack and got ready to watch Blake Griffin and the Los Angeles Clippers take on the Phoenix Suns, on TNT Thursday night basketball. After watching the Clippers lose to the Mavericks the night before I was interested to see how the team would respond.

J.J. Redick had been dealing with back spasms so I wasn’t expecting him to play. Right before tip-off it was announced that Chris Paul would also miss the game. That leaves us with a starting lineup of Austin Rivers, Pablo Prigioni (why did he start?), Lance Stephenson, Blake Griffin, and DeAndre Jordan.

During the first half Blake Griffin picked up his second technical foul for arguing with the refs. Now, I’m a basketball fan, and to see a superstar get ejected in the first half is mind-blowing. The TNT host were discussing how it was Blake’s fault for arguing when he already had 1 technical which is understandable. However, I’m not sure if a ref should be that quick to give out technicals in a regular season game.

Blake Griffin may have the reputation of a “crybaby” but you have to admit that he does get fouled a lot and rightfully so. Back when I played in college if someone try to embarrass me with a dunk of whatever the case was you foul them so they don’t try it again. Griffin does do that a lot and gets fouled often for that and some refs see it as crying. But Blake Griffin does not have the reputation of a Rasheed Wallace who constantly argued with refs back when played.

The Clippers on the other hand as a whole have that reputation as they lead the league in technicals last season. If they want more calls to go their way they need to get back into the graces of officials. Officials are human beings, and if you constantly disrespect them or throw shade at them in their eyes they are going to hold that against you.

For the Clippers the officials are the last thing they need to worry about. Doc Rivers needs to get his team focused on winning and playing great defense and team basketball again. Control what you can control.
