A Little Idea I Have For The Pelicans
- Updated: November 4, 2015
Yes I know this site is dedicated to the teams in Southern California. So I’ll throw out my Lakers reference now. Anthony Davis isn’t coming to the Lakers, or the Clippers for that matter.
Now to the good stuff, well I think it’s good stuff. The New Orleans Pelicans made the 8th seed in the Western Conference last season. To me, that was an accomplishment it itself. After they beat Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs on the last day of the season rumors starting flying around.
By the way that loss the Spurs suffered may have been the reason the Warriors went on to win the championship. Sorry Connor but a game 7 in San Antonio may have gone the other way and boom the whole playoffs is different. Anyway, rumors flew around the internet that Monty Williams would have been fired if the Pelicans did make the playoffs. They made it and he still got fired. People around the NBA thought it was a terrible move and if the story is true about making the playoffs it’s a really crappy stick to draw for Williams.
So the Pelicans fire Williams, hire Warriors associate head coach Alvin Gentry and everything is supposed to get better for New Orleans. Well things haven’t gone as planned so far in New Orleans, with their latest loss coming to the Orlando Magic. I understand it’s been 4 games, and 2 of the games were against the Warriors, but everyone has been talking about how great Anthony Davis is/going to be. If that’s the case I don’t think this team should be 0-4.
I started thinking, if the Pelicans continued to play poorly what would be a reasonable solution? I’m thinking that if they Pelicans continued to struggle they should fire sale their roster. I’m talking about those yard sales where everything is for sale except your first-born son. Yeah, one of those. Literally everyone on the team is for sale but Davis.
Collect draft picks for this year and the future. Create a tons of cap space along with draft picks and swing for the fences. Go after Kevin Durant in free agency. Tell Durant you, Davis, whatever draft pick you get can be okay the first year. Russell Westbrook can join the team the following summer. Oh yeah, fire the coach and bring in either Tom Thibodeau or Scott Brooks.
Yes I know this a crazy idea. Yes I know this is real life not 2k16, but someone once told me to be outside of the box so you can know everything that’s going on inside.
This is an out of the box idea and it probably won’t happen but it may be something worth a try if the Pelicans can get things together.
Oh if you want some Lakers talk, rumors are flying around that D’Angelo Russell is dating Kendall Jenner.
