Butcher had been the pitching coach for the Angels for the last nine seasons. He is a former big leaguer himself. He was drafted in the second round of the 1986 MLB draft to the Kansas City Royals.
He made it to the majors in 1992 with the California Angels and played 4 seasons. In total he played over 14 years of professional baseball.
The 2015 season marked his 30th year in professional baseball. In 2014 Angels pitchers set a franchise record with over 1,300 strikeouts.
The Angels tweeted out their respects to Butcher for his contributions.
Pitching coach Mike Butcher & hitting coach Don Baylor will not return in 2016. We thank them for their contributions to the Club. #Angels
