Blame the rain for the cancellation of yesterday’s game two, between the Angels and the Minnesota Twins. The two teams returned to the field for a doubleheader, which the Angels pulled out a very close 4-3 victory.

The scoring started off for both teams in the top of the sixth inning, when Mike Trout stepped up to the plate, with the bases loaded and hit a sacrifice fly to right, that scored Taylor Featherston, to give the Angels a 1-0 lead. C.J. Cron extended the lead on a fielder’s choice, that scored David Murphy, pushing the lead to 2-0. In the top of the seventh inning, Murphy gave the Angels a 3-1 lead, after he grounded out and Kaleb Cowart scored.

When the game was still tied in the top of the twelfth inning, Kole Calhoun drove in the winning run, on a ground out to short, that scored Daniel Robertson. Angels starter Andrew Heaney, completed six strong innings of work, striking out six, and only allowing two runs on two hits. Angels reliever Mike Morin (W,3-1), came on to get out the only two batters he faced, to pick up the win.

The win was very important for the Angels (75-72), the team is now tied with Minnesota (75-72), for the third spot in the American League Wild Card race, but they are still a game and a half behind the Houston Astros, who hold the second position.
