Josh Johnson To Undergo Third Tommy John Surgery

Josh Johnson

According to ESPN.com, the Padres right hander Josh Johnson will need to undergo his third Tommy John surgery. This will be putting an end to any chances he had of a comeback following his last reconstructive elbow surgery.

The story was first reported by CBS Sports, but ESPN has expanded by saying the following:

“Johnson’s agent, Matt Sosnick, said that his client is “committed to giving it one more shot” and that he knew he had a torn ligament in his right elbow 10 weeks ago.

“The Padres’ upper management and their medical staff have been very supportive, and they told him he could try to pitch through it,” Sosnick said.

The agent said Johnson is looking at all medical options, including “cutting edge” procedures beyond the standard Tommy John surgery. Johnson made back-to-back All-Star teams with the Marlins in 2009 and 2010, but has enjoyed only one injury-free season over the past five years.”

Josh Johnson signed a one-year deal with the Padres in 2014 as a free agent, and he is yet to pitch in the Majors this season.

He was an All-Star with the Marlins in 2009 and 2010, and led the NL with a 2.30 ERA. His progress was slowed by triceps and forearm injuries in 2013 with the Blue Jays.

He has a career record of 58-45 with a 3.40 ERA.

We wish nothing but the best for Josh Johnson!
