RECAP: Padres Get Past The D’Backs, 4-3
- Updated: September 17, 2015
Andrew Cashner (6-15), went seven strong innings allowing only three runs on seven hits and striking out six, to lead the San Diego Padres to a 4-3 win over Arizona.
The final game in Arizona this season, this one, was enjoyed by the Padres. Matt Kemp came through with a big three run homer, his 22nd of the season, in the top of the fifth inning, giving the team the 4-2 advantage at that point.
The bullpen looked great in this contest, Joaquin Benoit (H,26), came into the game in the eight inning and sat down two batters. Closer Craig Kimbrel(S,37), entered the game and got the final four outs of the ball game to secure the victory for San Diego.
The win for the Padres was their fourth, in the last ten games. Give Andrew Cashner a large amount of credit for the win, Cashner had been struggling through a very rough 2015 season, where he has lost 13 of the past 17 games in which he had pitched. He also had a part in the offense as well, collecting a hit in three plate appearances.
The team will now travel to Colorado to face the Rockies, for a three-game weekend set, starting Friday night. Ian Kennedy (8-14, 4.28 ERA), will take the hill for San Diego. The Rockies will counter with Chad Betts (7-5, 4.59 ERA).
San Diego (69-78), with the win has now moved to within a half a game of third place in the National League West, behind Arizona (69-77), but are still sixteen games behind the first place Los Angeles Dodgers, who are leading the division.
