Jake Peavy Stars, Padres Fall To Giants 9-1

SAN FRANCISCO, Ca- Jake Peavy dominated his former team allowing just 2 hits over 7 innings of work and the San Diego Padres fell to the San Francisco Giants 9-1 on Friday night.
Andrew Cashner got the start for the Padres. He last just 4.2 innings allowing 9 hits and 5 runs. He did strike out 7 but also walked 5. This was his 15th loss of the season.
On the other side Peavy was spectacular. He pitched 7 innings allowing 2 hits and 1 run. He only struck out 2 and did not walk anyone. He was awarded his 6th win of the year.
The Padres scored their only run in the 2nd inning. Justin Upton hit a solo shot to left field, his 25th of the year and gave the Padres a 1-0 lead.
The Giants responded in the bottom half of the second when Angel Pagan hit a RBI single to left field that brought in Kelby Tomlinson and tied the game at 1-1.
In the 3rd inning Buster Posey hit a RBI single to left field as well that brought in Alejandro De Aza. Marlon Byrd followed with a RBI single to right that brought in Matt Duffy and the Giants led 3-1.
San Francisco continued their offense in the 5th inning. Ehire Adrianza hit a RBI single to center field that brought in Brandon Belt. Peavy helped himself out with a RBI single of his own.
The Giants pushed 4 more runs across in the 7th highlighted by a Jarrett Parker ground-rule double and beat the Padres 9-1.
The Padres and Giants will continue their series tonight at 6:05 p.m. PST
